Chiropractic care provides natural relief for back pain, sciatica, headaches, neck pain, and joint discomfort. By addressing spinal misalignments and improving nervous system function, chiropractic adjustments help restore mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall well-being.
Pregnancy places unique demands on the body, often leading to discomfort, misalignments, and postural changes. Chiropractic care can help relieve back pain, improve pelvic balance, and support a smoother pregnancy and postpartum recovery. Gentle adjustments promote optimal function for both mother and baby.
Just like proper nutrition, chiropractic care plays a vital role in a child’s overall well-being. Gentle adjustments support a healthy nervous system, aid in proper development, and can help with issues like colic, sleep disturbances, and posture. Starting care early sets the foundation for lifelong health.
Aging can bring stiffness, reduced mobility, and discomfort, but chiropractic care helps maintain flexibility and joint function. By promoting a proper range of motion, reducing pain, and supporting overall mobility, chiropractic adjustments can enhance quality of life and independence for seniors.
Fibromyalgia is a complex and often debilitating condition characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, and poor sleep. Chiropractic care focuses on improving spinal function and reducing nerve interference, which can help manage pain, improve sleep quality, and enhance overall well-being for those living with fibromyalgia.
“Back in 5th grade I decide that I would be a doctor. I was good at science, fascinated by how the body functioned, and excited about helping people,” recalled Dr. Peterson. “At that time, my dad was a pharmacist and I had never heard of chiropractic. A couple years later, he packed us all up and moved from San Antonio to Davenport, Iowa to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic.
As I made my journey through high school, my dad would talk about patient success stories from his new office, and I had a few personal chiropractic experiences to celebrate as well. In my senior year of high school, I realized my passion for helping people would be best accomplished through chiropractic. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Austin, I was headed on my journey to Davenport, Iowa and Palmer College of Chiropractic.”
“I was pleasantly surprised by the rigor of the coursework. I was inundated with courses in anatomy, physiology, and chemistry as well as all the courses that built on that solid foundation to produce in me a Doctor of Chiropractic who was well prepared to care for his patients.”
After graduating magna cum laude in 1995, Dr. Peterson worked in his practice, as well as, with several other chiropractors. In 2007 he had the opportunity to return home to San Antonio to work with his father. In 2018 he took over ownership of Peterson Chiropractic. This has allowed Dr. Ward to travel more and spend his time enjoying semi-retirement with his wife.
“It is a privilege getting to work with my family”, Dr. Peterson says, “and each patient who comes into our office is welcomed with open arms into our family. I believe we deliver the best and most gentle chiropractic care in town along with the best customer service. Even though most people come to us as a last resort, we love to see people before they get to the point of desperation. That’s why we are a family practice that focuses on teaching and helping families live healthy lives from birth through to old age.”
Dr. Peterson is married to his lovely wife Christy, a nurse practitioner, and has 3 adult daughters, 3 stepsons, and 1 grandson. He is passionate about spending time with family, traveling, and fitness.
Dr. McKenzie is thrilled to be part of our team, bringing her expertise and passion for holistic health to the San Antonio community. Originally from St. Charles, Illinois, Dr. McKenzie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science before discovering her passion for chiropractic during her time at Shenandoah University.
Graduating in 2020, she immersed herself in chiropractic, shadowing professionals and working as an assistant, ultimately leading her to Sherman College of Chiropractic, where she graduated Cum Laude in 2024. During her studies, Dr. McKenzie excelled academically and was selected as an ACE intern, mentoring younger students in chiropractic technique and leadership.

“I had been a Registered Pharmacist for 7 years and, each year, was becoming more discouraged about what I saw”, admits Dr. Ward Peterson. I began reading about how chiropractic looked at health and found that chiropractic put in words what I always thought that health is. I got excited because I found that just covering up symptoms, which is what I had seen from medicine for years, was not the only type of health care.
So, a year and a half later I found myself moving my wife and 3 children from San Antonio, Texas to Davenport, Iowa to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic.
When I got to Palmer, I was not sure if I hoped that it would be easy or that it would be hard as I already had had 5 years of pharmacy school and was married through most of those years. Well, I am glad that it was hard. The major emphasis was on anatomy and human physiology, X-rays, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques, and patient care in the Palmer College Public Clinic. Yes, the courses were hard, but I learned so much more than I thought was possible for me to learn. I also gained a great deal of confidence that I could be able to help people.
After graduating in 1985, Dr. Ward returned to San Antonio to establish Peterson Chiropractic.
“We love helping people,” smiles Dr. Ward. “We know that many people are apprehensive when they go to a chiropractor for the first time. We understand that many people don’t know what we do, so we make a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions and even give a short tour of our office. You see our goal is not only to get you feeling better, but we want you to live better for the rest of your life. To do that we need to teach you how, so we give classes and are constantly working with you individually. In our office, we use a very gentle method (no bone cracking) called Torque Release. Chiropractic research has gone towards a lower force but very specific adjustment.
Dr. Ward has begun to spend much of his semi-retired time down in the Valley with his wife Pat. They have 3 grown children, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. He loves to exercise, do projects, and walk on a regular daily basis.
This is God’s office. We seek His will, honor Him in every decision, and strive to glorify Him in all that we do.
Because God is first in all things, love is the natural outflow of our work. Rooted in Christ’s example, we extend unconditional love and care to every person who walks through our doors.
We aim for continued growth in ourselves and our patients in order to achieve the fullest potential, both in health and in relationship with God in all areas of our lives.
We embrace the transformative power of taking action to bring joy to others. This is inspired by God, ranging from simple acts of kindness to more significant efforts. We find our joy in creating moments of happiness and fulfillment in the lives of our patients.
